Duchovná hudba v chráme Najsvätejšieho Spasiteľa v Bratislave má bohatú tradíciu. Prvé zmienky o predvedených kompozíciách sú z rokov 1651 a 1657. Keďže tento kostol postavili evanjelici v rokoch 1636-1638, v chráme zneli kompozície protestantských skladateľov. V kostole pôsobili významní kantori a skladatelia: Samuel Capricornus a Ján Kusser.

Jezuiti začali pôsobiť v kostole Najsvätejšieho Spasiteľa v roku 1672. Prvú fundáciu pre cirkevnú hudbu založil arcibiskup Leopold Kollonich v roku 1680. V rokoch 1745-1855 pôsobili v kostole dirigenti: Leopold Popp, Jakub Kurz a František Kurz. Od roku 1855 do roku 1911 spieval v kostole Najvätejšieho Spasiteľa mužský zbor študentov Inštitútu pre kresťanskú filozofiu, členov rehole jezuitov. Jedným z najznámejších dirigentov tohto zboru bol fráter Weber. V roku 1911, po preložení Inštitútu do Innsbrucku, účinkovali v jezuitskom kostole dva spevácke zbory: ženský zbor Mariánskej kongregácie SV. CECÍLIA pod vedením organistu Jána Hromadu a mužský zbor Mariánskej kongregácie MARIENLOB s dirigentmi Ferdinandom Winklerom a Karolom Holubekom. V roku 1921 sa tieto dva zbory zjednotili a vznikol miešaný zbor SALVATOR, ktorý viedol prof. Viliam Antalffy. Tento vynikajúci hudobník pôsobil v jezuitskom kostole dvadsaťpäť rokov. V chráme odzneli hudobné diela od gregoriánskeho chorálu a stredovekej hudby cez hudbu barokovú, klasickú, romantickú až po vtedajšiu súčasnú hudbu. Po smrti Antalffyho prevzal vedenie spevokolu jeho žiak prof. Ladislav Schleicher, ktorý v ťažkých povojnových podmienkach nezištne dirigoval zbor SALVATOR tiež dvadsaťpäť rokov (1946-1971). Prof. Schleicher nielenže pokračoval v tradícii svojho učiteľa, ale rozšíril repertoár zboru o nové skladby. V roku 1971, keď boli rozpustené všetky cirkevné spolky, zastavilo sa aj účinkovanie zboru SALVATOR.

Spevácky zbor sa obnovil v roku 1990, keď z iniciatívy študentov a absolventov Konzervatória v Bratislave a Vysokej školy múzických umení v spolupráci s jezuitmi začal v kostole Najsvätejšieho Spasiteľa účinkovať zbor CHORUS SALVATORIS. Zakladajúcimi členmi zboru boli najmä inštrumentalisti (Katarína Čisáriková-Vavrová, Marta Žáková, Monika Beganová, bratia Vlastimil Dufka SJ a Peter Dufka SJ), ktorí pôsobili aj samostatne pod názvom COLLEGIUM MUSICUM SALVATORIS. Tento súbor od začiatku účinkoval v rôznych zoskupeniach a podľa potreby uvádzal vokálne, vokálno-inštrumentálne alebo inštrumentálne skladby.

Sacred music in the Church of the Most Holy Saviour in Bratislava has a rich tradition. The first reference to musical performances in this church stems from the year 1651 and 1657. Since the church was built by the Lutherans in 1636-1638, most compositions performed here were those of Protestant composers. Significant liturgical composers, Samuel Capricornus and Johannes Kusser, were working in this church.

The Jesuits began to work in the Church of the Most Holy Saviour in the year 1672. The first foundation for church music was established by archbishop Leopold Kollonich in 1680. In 1745-1855 the conductors Leopold Popp, Jakob Kurz and Franz Kurz were performing in the church. The male voice choir of the students of the Institute for Christian Philosophy, all of them members of the Jesuit order, were singing in the Church of the Most Holy Saviour from 1855 till 1911. One among the wellknown conductors of this choir was Brother Weber. In 1911 when the Institute was transferred to Innsbruck, two voice choirs were performing in the Jesuit church. The female voice choir of the Sodality of Our Lady ST. CECILIA was conducted by the organist Ján Hromada, and the male voice choir of the Sodality of Our Lady MARIENLOB was conducted by Ferdinand Winkler and Karol Holubek. In 1921 both choirs unified into a mixed voice choir SALVATOR conducted by Prof. Viliam Antalffy. This distinguished musician peformed in the Jesuit church for 25 years. Many various compositions were played in the church – from Gregorian chants and medieval music, through baroque, classical, romantic music – till the contemporary music of those days. After Antalffy’s death, his pupil Prof. Ladislav Schleicher began to conduct the choir. With self-sacrifice he conducted the choir SALVATOR for 25 years during the difficult years after the Second World War, from 1946 till 1971. Prof. Schleicher not only continued the traditions of his teacher but even extended the repertoire of the choir with new compositions. In 1971 after the dissolution of all church societies, the choir SALVATOR also was forced to stop its activities.

Since 1990 the voice choir of the church has now been renewed thanks to the initiative of students and graduates of the Conservatory and of the Music Academy in Bratislava, in cooperation with the Jesuits. Now called CHORUS SALVATORIS, the choir continues to sing in the Church of the Most Holy Saviour. The founding members of the choir were mainly instrumentalists (Katarína Čisáriková-Vavrová, Marta Žáková, Monika Beganová and the two brothers Vlastimil Dufka SJ and Peter Dufka SJ) who also performed separately as COLLEGIUM MUSICUM SALVATORIS. From the beginning, this ensemble performed in different groupings. It performed compositions with voice alone, with voice and instuments and with instruments alone.
